Career

A native of Portland, Oregon, I graduated from the Pacific Northwest College of Art in 1971 with a bachelors of Fine Arts Degree and have been exhibiting and making art ever since. I have had my work in many galleries and participated in many exhibitions within the United States and Europe. My medium for the last 25 years has been water color. I consider myself a colorist and enjoy telling stories with my paintings. Although my subject material has changed throughout the years, my work has been influenced by my childhood. I grew up in a family that encouraged exploration of the natural world and they also exposed me to many cultures. I was an avid bird watcher and entomologist, and now my love of nature has continued into my adult life.

I primarily work with a handmade watercolor paper and I use watercolors in a very non-traditional manner. I like to scrub the surface, layer the paint and use white as well as metallic gouaches.
